Background Information
My name is Julianne Hall, and I am a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Duke University. This website was created as part of my adolescent psychology class and looks at the issue of incorporating virtual and online labs in the high school science classroom. For the past few years there has been a push to incorporate technology of any kind into middle and high school classrooms. In fact, soon after I graduated, my high school moved to a one-to-one iPad program. When I tell people about this transition I get a lot of, "Wows", and, "That must be awesome!". However, I have seen the detrimental effects this program has had on my siblings and other students. In my opinion, technology can introduce more problems than solutions into the classroom, but I have never looked into the research behind this movement. That is, until now. This website outlines my exploration of the research behind integrating online labs into high school science classrooms and the experiences that current science teachers have had with this movement. As you will see, my views on incorporating online labs into my classroom have shifted as a result of this project.
